Urban Decay Naked Heat A Review

Hey Readers,

I hope this post finds you well. In keeping with trying to mix it up with my current posts I thought today I would bring you all a review post.  So having read the title you will already know that I am going to be talking about one of the most talked about and photographed palettes of the moment. And I know the reality is that every blogger and vlogger has already talked about this palette its packaging, swatched every shadow on their arm, talked about finish and price point. But I am terrible at swatching and describing things and I didn't really want to just repost what Urban Decay has already written (although I have used it a little).  So I thought I will do things a little differently. Rather than just going through every single shade individually, its finish, colour description and a swatch calling the review done. I thought I would go a little further try to include my overall thoughts, talk about how the shadows perform,  how I like to use them, shadows that I find pair well together.  I also want to share why I bought this palette, the shades I love the most, what has worked and what hasn't. As well as giving the answers to the questions I had before I bought this palette and hopefully help you if you are wanting to buy this palette and want more information than just what the shades look and feel like. So lets get started...

Now from the from the first time I saw this pictured on Instagram I was hooked the red, purple and orange toned shadows just looked so beautiful. I was drawn to them instantly, I wanted to own this palette. But this entire palette consisted of  shades I had never thought of owning before. I loved the fact that it was new and different, that out of 12 shadows 7 of are matte and I for some reason I could see myself using them day to day. I also knew that the shadows themselves would be high quality as Urban decay is fairly consistent with that from palette to palette. But I still wasn't sure about it. I didn't even know if red and orange toned or warm toned shadows suited me. I just wanted it!!

I then did  a small amount of research watching most of the youTube videos that had come out when it was released to youtubers in the states. It became quite apparent that these colours worked well for most skin tones and eye colours. I also learnt very quickly that the mattes were beautiful while the shimmers and metallics took a bit of work. Overall I was happy with what I was potentially purchasing and thanks to a Mecca pre release sale I got to own this nearly a whole two months before its released in Australia (29 August 2017) and I have loved it ever since.


As I said previously the Urban Decay Naked Heat palette is the latest in the Naked palette collection, it contains 12 shadows (7 mattes, 2 shimmers and 3 metallics) all shadows are warm toned and there is a mix of red, orange and purple shades. The packaging is a sturdy plastic with magnetic closer The palette also has a full size mirror on the inside of the lid and comes with a double ended brush. 

Ounce 
The lightest shadow of the 12 and from the begging I will be honest I never really saw myself using this shade that much at all. I don't usually highlight my inner corner or brow bone so I never saw me ever dipping into this all that much. But I have given it a go. As a base shade I find it too light for me and a little too shimmery,  but yet as a highlight option it lacks pigmentation you really have to pack it on to see any effect otherwise it just seems to blend away and fade into the background. If your some one that likes your highlight subtle or you have a paler skin tone this probably is perfect for you.

Chaser  
This light matte brown nude its almost skin colour for myself. I love it as an all over the lid shade is really is a my lids but better shade for me. Its great to set an eye shadow base to start a look off. I find it evens everything out allowing you to start with a blank canvas. I also love it to use to blend out shadows when I want to make everything look a little more even or diffused without adding extra colour.

Sauced 
Do we remember when the Naked 2 came out and every video you watched the youtuber would use tease as a transition/crease shade. Sauced is that for Naked Heat it just adds a depth to a look, as well as a softness in a way no other shadow does and depending on what other shadows from the palette you pair it with depends on whether you will see it lean orange or warm brown. Its pigmented enough that it defines well and the shadow itself blends beautifully. 


Low Blow 
Ok this is where crease definition or wanting to add extra warmth to your look really starts. Again pigmented and blendable this shadow just glides on adding definition and warmth wherever it goes. Primarily I use this in the crease and lower lashline. This mid tone brown seems work with any other shade in the palette regardless.  If you are after a really quick simple and work appropriate look use chaser all over the lid and layer sauced and low blow into the crease, liner (I prefer dark brown), mascara and your done. I know its all matte but great when your running late have a meeting and need to look put together!!

Lumbre 
Really want to know if Urban Decay meant it to be pronounced Lumbray or Loombray.   UD describe it as a Copper shimmer but when I swatch it on my skin I see more of a light peachy pink with a gold reflect. Some reviews have likened it to Nars orgasm blush but since I don't own it I have to say my initial thoughts are  that it looks very much like a light version of Hot mama blush by the balm. That peachy glowy highlight.I haven't dipped into the shimmers much so I haven't used this a whole lot but what I will say is a middle of the lid highlight it does look really pretty.


He Devil 
Part of the reason I bought this palette was for the name of this shadow alone.  I just loved the name and its red tone looked interesting. Described as a burnt red to me and on my skin its and warm red/orange. It not only warms up an eye look but gives something extra to the average neutral look. I love the pop of colour in the crease it just adds so much interest. I would say that it is slightly less pigmented than the other mattes in the palette but it also allows you to control and vary the depth of colour.   


Dirty Talk 
This is described as a metallic burnt red but for me swatched and on my lids it really does look more of a coppery orange toned and is almost a deeper version of Lumbre. Such a gorgeous shadow and really lends itself to being placed all over the lid blended out a little in the crease with a matte shade and a black wing liner added over the top.     

Scorched 
Once again I disagree slightly with Urban Decays description of this one. Its described as a metallic deep red now in the pan I would say spot on. But swatched I do feel it leans slightly orange. Now I will say that some reviewers have said that it looks too similar to Lumbre and/or Dirty Talk. Now if you swatch the two side by side they do bear resemblance with scorched being the deepest shade of the bunch. However with this shadow I feel it is a bit of a chameleon and it really depends on what you pair it with particuarly the mattes. place next to He devil and you definitely bring out that orange coppery tone, pair it with En Fuego and I do feel it brings out the red. Given its depth and shimmer level I do feel it needs a matte for balance but thats really my personal preference this definitely would go well on its own with liner and lashes.

Cayenne
This is the shadow I feel should have gotten the description of burnt red (not He Devil) but for the record it is described as a deep terra cotta. Its the perfect depth of red and brown mixed together an amazing colour for adding to the outer V or lower lash line and it is pigmented so you really don't need much.


En Fuego
This was another colour that I couldn't wait to try. As a Queenslander every year around state of Origin I look for a Maroon shadow/liner and its so hard to find something that doesn't look too purple or red. It is described as a burgundy but I do feel it leans more purple over red regardless its the perfect mix of the two. Adding depth to any look or as a liner. 

Ashes 
This purpleish brown is one I was not disappointed to see I really never reached for a black matte shadow. I much prefer a dark brown or deep purple and I really feel its the perfect match for this palette and I wouldn't replace with a brown or black. This is my kinda colour for the upper lash line and wing, I have really enjoyed it. The shadow is pigmented but you do need to build up,  having said that wetting  your brush does do the work for you.  

Ember
I will be honest to say that this is the least used shadow for me so far not because its not beautiful because lets face it, it is. But because its so deep in shade and it has an interesting mix of almost all the shades in the palette. Described as a deep metallic copper burgundy in some lights it looks like a metallic purple brown, in others you can really see the copper with an almost black looking base. Like many other shades in this palette I really feel its dependent on what light your in and what other shadows you pair it with.

So that ends the review of the individual shadows in this palette. Overall I would like to say that despite its higher price point (particularly compared to what our beauty sisters ad misters are paying OS) I do feel it is worth the $$ particularly if you see yourself using most of the shadows included. 

While I also do recognise that some of these shades look same same on the lid. I don't really feel I am really missing anything to complete an entire look or that I would have included anything that isn't there. I feel this really is actually the first naked palette I have felt that I can complete multiple looks with from the one palette, and that I am constantly using different shadows from the palette. With the only extras I need being liner and mascara. If you have a teal liner pop it on your waterline it just pairs so well with these shadows!!! 

 The quality of these shadows also seems to be a step up from the previous naked palettes even though I do only own Naked 2 and 3. In comparison the mattes are more pigmented, blendable and buildable. As for the shimmers and mettalics yes they need building up but I feel that is a good thing.  I like having control with these kind of finishes you get to choose the final effect you can always add more and its an effort to take it away!! I also haven't experienced a tone of fallout from any of them. I would recommend this palette to anyone its beautiful and I really feel adds a new dimension to any palette collection.

Bellabox July and June Review

Hey Readers,
I hope the weekend finds you well!! This week another Bellabox box has arrived and I wasn't expecting it this week so its been a nice surprise to see it at my door. But before I get into this months products I will review the box for June!!

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate Moss in the shade 30.
I was so excited for this and it did not disappoint!! I love this deep plum it just finishes my makeup looks perfectly and everytime I wear it someone comments says how good it looks. Loving it and will continue to wear.

Sukin Chia Seed Oil 
I will be honest I haven't used this at all I did put it on the bathroom shelf so it was out to remind me to use but I cleaned up and put it into a basket an kinda forgot it was there ooops!! I will try to give it a whirl this month!!

Nivea Cream Mini Tin 
I haven't open this tin but I have used product from a larger tin that I already opened. This cream is great for the winter months so hydrating and long lasting.

Goldwell Dualscenses Just Smooth 60 Second Treatment
I really have enjoyed this one and it really does work when its only been applied to the hair for such a short amount of time. My hair is left soft and smooth but not unmanageable which I enjoy.

Nutraplus Intensive Anti Dryness Lotion
This little tube has been perfect for having in my hand bag with the weather getting windy and chilly bring out the dry patches and this perfect to have on hand for any moment!!

So onto Bellabox July so this months box has come with the theme of Around the globe but I have to say after looking at the websites for two of the three products I have received are Australian with the second Korea so overall we haven't traveled too far nonetheless some interesting products have arrived so lets get started...

Zuii Certified Organic Vegan Flora Mascara received on full size mascara in Black 
This certified organic vegan mascara offers luxurious smudge-proof formula that says it will add volume and length. Always happy to see a makeup item and those of you that read regularly know that I always love trying a new mascara cannot wait to try.

Blaq Face Mask received a deluxe sample 15ml full size is 60ml
This peel off mask contains activated charcoal to draw out impurities and blackheads. I am interested to try this one I don't love using nose strips so while this is still a peel off product I am interested to see if its a good alternative.

The Face Shop Chia Seed Discovery Kit received three deluxe samples from the range.
This discovery kit contains the hydrating toner, hydrating emulsion and no shine intense hydrating cream. This is a nice set to introduce you to the products within the face shop range that are all chia seed based. All three are gentle on the skin, help the skin to retain its natural moisture as well as helping the skin to keep shine at bay. To be honest the only product I am really interested to try is the no shine cream I generally use these types of creams to moisturise before makeup and being a combo skin girl I find they help to keep my makeup last longer.

Fast Five!!!

I hope this post finds you well!! Today I am back with a little bit of a different post. For a while I have been a little stuck for things to write about and at the same time I have not had a lot of time to dedicate to blogging as my day job has been so busy!! Everytime I think of an idea I find myself picking up the same products that I have written about time and time before. I've been wanting to write more about different things. Now don't get me wrong I love my writing about beauty boxes and I love giving my thoughts on mascaras I have been using but I want to change it up. So today I am doing what I am going to call a fast five!! These post will consist of five mini reviews of beauty or beauty related products.  I am hoping I can be as concise as possible to give a good overview without making these posts to long. I am also going to try to stick to products and items that I haven't spoken about before on my blog, items that go under the radar when it comes to the makeup routine and items that may be left out of the Instagram fotd posts but are essentials to my makeup day!! So lets get started......

Lacura Beauty Dual End Contour Angle Makeup Brush
This was a limited edition release makeup brush from Lacura Beauty (Sold exclusively in Aldi Supermarkets). I will be honest from the beginning I did not buy this with contour in mind.  While the angle brush end is soft and fluffy. I find it only really great if I want a diffused finish to my bronzer/contour. I mainly use it to buff out product on my cheeks if I have been a little heavy handed or to lightly apply powder under the eyes. The main reason I enjoy this is the ''contour'' end again I would never use this for  for contour. I love it to apply foundation. The brush is the perfect density for liquid foundations not too tightly packed but not too fluffy. It picks up and applies foundation easily and whether you prefer a buffing or stippling motion I always get a smooth flawless finish. If they ever release more in this line I will definitely give them a try.

Manicare Brow/Eye Defining Brush 
This is the reason my eyeliner is smooth and my winged liner isn't wonky every single day and my use of it is probably my best kept beauty secret!!! I simply cannot apply eyeliner evenly free hand and when I discovered this brush I never looked back!! Densely packed bristles allow you to apply any type of liner easily and smoothly. Its flexible enough to hug the lash line to get a smooth line but precise enough that you get an even wing. I usually use with pencil liner although I do love this with cream or gel liners too.

Make-Up Design (MUD) Flawless Finish Foundation 
I have always been intrigued about supermarket brand (Sold in Woolworths) makeup despite often having the thought that cheap usually isn't always great quality. So after seeing a you Tube video using this foundation I was interested to try. Now it won't be replacing my all time favourite Covergirl Ready Set Fabulous foundation any time soon, but I have to say for a day to day wear to work this foundation its a great option. A light medium coverage this foundation applies so easily and gives a smooth, even and flawless finish to the face. It lasts a reasonable amount of time too, I only really get a work day out of it if I am going out after work I do need to reapply. But I don't find within a work day really require a lot of touch ups. I also find it copes with me going in and out of  air-conditioned buildings to outdoors quite well. 

Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner in Teal
Ok so I know a lot of you wouldn't consider this high end but when I am considering spending  $22/$23  for an eyeliner I consider it high end. And lets be honest if these liners hadn't been 50% off I wouldn't have even looked. But I really have been loving a pop of colour on my lower lash line or over black or brown liner for day to day. I find its the easiest and quickest way for me to finish my makeup off and add just a little something to my eyes. Particularly good also when I am pressed for time not have to worry about eye shadow palettes, brushes and potential fallout!!! These liners are just so smooth and creamy, easy to apply and colour pigmented. It just glides on and I can go!! and it lasts all day!! Love Love Love!!

Beauty Care Co Eye Makeup Remover Wipes 
Now these are what I was partially referring to in my intro as a product that goes under the radar when it comes to my makeup routine and that definitely gets left out of my fotd Instagram posts. Yet they become such and integral part of my day and I miss them when there isn't any left. While they maybe small they are my go to when I need to remove foundation from the back of my hand after application, perfect for removing swatches when I am blogging about a colour product trying to describe the colour and finish in words or cleaning up a product before I photograph it and always there when I need to quickly clean an eye makeup brush so my shadows aren't mixed together from a previous look. I buy these ones from Kmart and they are 95c which is amazing when the are sufficiently saturated with makeup remover, soft to touch and gentle on your skin they don't leave a wet residue and they also don't dry out my skin.

Mascara Madness #17

I hope this post finds you well!! This weekend I am here with another mascara madness. These mascaras have been waiting for me to write about them for so long and as I find myself wanting to declutter my collection further and rearrange my makeup storage further it seems the best time to post my thoughts on these three and then I can finally say goodbye!!! As usual I will compare the advertising pitch to the reality of my experience. 
So lets get started!!

Avon Big And False Lash Mascara

The Reality: While volume it does give to the lashes. I was never wowed by this mascara. My lashes just looked good not great va va voom fluttery that I think of when I read false lash effect with volume. I also found that as the mascara got drier the fibers irritated my eyes and I would also see flakes throughout the day.

Eye of Horus Bio Lash Lift Mascara

The Reality: The double sided brush does take a little to get used to but and I did find initially it was hard to apply product and not get clumps, the mascara is thicker in consistency than most but I got used to that I loved the results the lift and length gives really beautiful definition to the lashes and definitely has that wow factor.

Like traditional mascara, you can apply multiple coats to create phenomenal length and volume. Fluttering lashes without the faff of falsies!!

The Reality: This mascara is so easy to apply and is so light on you lashes. The curve brush creates lift and curl and they instantly look lengthened and fluttery. I didn't really see a tone of volume even with multi coats but I do prefer a more natural look for everyday so I enjoyed the results regardless.

Bellabox June and May Review

Hey readers,
I hope this post finds you well. Another months Bellabox has arrived at my door this week and I am stunned that a month has past since the last one but I was excited to see this box arrive and I'll tell you why in a bit but first lets review the box that was!!!

May Bellabox Review
Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip 
While this is was the hero item of last months box and while I was excited to own my first Colourpop item I just didn't love the colour that much however it was really easy to apply, lasted a decent amount of time not to sticky either.

Gamourflage Rauchy Rosie Handcream
 This has been in my handbag all month and really has become my go to handcream. The scent is really gentle and it absorbs really quickly which I have been really enjoying.

Zuii Certified Organic Eyeliner Pencil
I was really excited to try this eyeliner but I have to say that I was left slightly disappointed. It wasn't as smooth and creamy  as my usual go to pencil liner and while pigmented and long lasting it did take a bit to apply so I really haven't found myself reaching for it.

KMS AddVolume Liquid Dust
This was easy to use in the regards of being a liquid product but I didn't really see much volume to be really honest. 

Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser
As I said in my original post this is a great all rounder and I did take it with me on a recent weekend away. Such a handy multipurpose cleanser!!

Ok so onto Bellabox June. Now this box comes with the theme of Winter Wind-Up and while in some ways I am unsure of what BB means by this all the the items I have received do have that winter theme feel to them so lets get started!!!

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate Moss in the shade 30 recieved one 
As I said at the start of the post I was excited to see this box arrive and this is the reason why!!! Weeks ago BB announced that lipsticks would be included and I think via instagram or an email (not sure which) I was able to choose the colour I wished to receive. I know usually I am not a lipstick person but something about the colour 30 just took my fancy. This deep plum is completely out of my lipbalm self comfort zone but I have already tried it and I cannot believe how much I am enjoying it so comfortable on the lips and colour is just gorgeous!!

Sukin Australia Chia Seed Oil recieved a full size 25ml
This facial oil combines chia, hemp, oilve, boabab, kale, spirulina, parsley and chlorella together resulting in a nutrient rich facial oil that helps to  hydrate, brighten, moisturise the skin. On the fence a little about this one. On one hand my skin probably needs the hydration and TLC on the other I don't really love applying oils to my face its really just a textural thing so I will give it a try and see what its like.

Nivea Cream Mini Tin received a deluxe 10ml sample full size is 150ml
This is such a cute little tin of nivea cream and will be great to add to the handbag or travel toiletries. This cream is so smooth and hydrating and while it is a little on the thicker side I always find it absorbs easily.

Goldwell Dualsenses Just Smooth 60 Second Treatment received a deluxe 25ml sample full size is 200ml
This hair treatment promises to restore all the damage done by cold and blow drying that leaves hair unmanageable and prone to fly aways. I am interested to try this fly aways are always a battle for me and anything that is quick and easy to use I am willing to give a try.

Nutraplus Intensive Anti Dryness Lotion received a sample tube of 10ml full size is 200ml
This lotion targets dehydrated skin restoring its natural barrier. I have used the hand cream version of this brand before lotion which I have been really enjoying so happy to be able to try something different.

Maslow and Co France

I hope this post finds you well, Sorry for the lack of post last week I was away for the weekend and despite the best laid plans I forgot to schedule the post I had written to go up I hate to say it but sometimes these things just happen. So this weekend I am here with the latest edition of Maslow and Co. This months edition is items all curated from France and there are some really great products inside so lets get to it!!!

Nuxe Nuxellence Eclat Serum received a deluxe 15ml travel size full size is 50ml
From the same brand that bought us an all purpose dry oil this serum is the latest in anti aging skin care. Combining pigment corrector, passion flower and hyaluronic acid to energise the skin and illuminate the complexion. Interested to try this one as I have not really tried a lot of products from this brand before.

 La Roche-Posay Lipikar Cleansing Gel received a 100ml deluxe travel size full size is 400ml
This gentle body cleanser is enriched with shea butter to soothe and moisturise the skin but is free from soap, alcohol and parabens. Interested to try this one as I haven't tried any body products from La Roche-Posay before I also love that this can be used in both the shower and bath!!

Nominoe Radiant Hydration Mask received a full size 40ml
This mask is not only plant based this mask endevours to rejuvenate dull, stressed and dehydrated skin back to looking renewed and radiant. Now usually this is the point where I say I will give it a go despite not loving face masks BUT this one is a little bit different!! Like a conventional mask you apply and leave for 10-15 mins but then you incorporate a little water to emusify and gentle massage into the skin until its absorbed. Really cannot wait to try this out.

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water received a 100ml deluxe travel size full size is 500ml
It wouldn't be a box curated from France without Bioderma being included I don't think there are many in the beauty community that don't know about or haven't tried this micellar water. A great makeup remover that is quick and fuss free great for on the go and handy for travel. 

Institut Karite Paris Almond and Honey Hand Cream received a deluxe 30ml size full size is 74ml
Shea butter based this hand cream is vitamin rich and nourishing. Absorbs quickly to nourish, protect and repair.While a hand cream isn't super exciting to me at the moment I have been looking for one that is lightly fragranced and this one isn't too bad.

Institut Karite Paris Macaron Hand Soap received one 
These small soaps are enriched with Vitamin A, E and shea Butter designed to not only clean but moisturise your hands at the same time, Love the Lemon Verbena scent of the one that I have it perfumed my whole box!! Not sure if I'll use it in the bathroom or put it in my draws as a draw scent!!

Laboratoires Surface-Paris Bright Now Gentle Exfoliating Clarifying Soap received one bar
Infused with exfoliating apricot kernel particles this vegetable based soap gentle exfoliates and cleanses the skin. Removing dead skin cells and restoring radiance to the complexion. Interestingly this can be used on the face and body. Happy to try always like trying skincare that is multipurpose.

So that ends this edition of Maslow and Co. And I really am excited to try all the goodies I have received I was particularly excited about the French theme given its not that easy to get these kind of items here in Australia. I would also like to take the time to say that this box marks the first in my subscription renewal to Maslow and Co and this will be the second year I have subscribed. I know I have made the comments over the past year  that I would like to see more makeup items or that these boxes are skin care heavy and I did think long and hard about stopping. But overall I am always happy to see this box arrive at my door and it doesn't seem to matter what the country is I am always impressed by the products inside and I love experiencing something new and different. Hopefully this helps if you are thinking about subscribing I highly recommend. If you are not wanting to commit to a full year of boxes Maslow and Co do have a single box option!!! I hope this post finds you well. This week I am here with my latest edition of Bellabox. This edition comes with the theme of future proof and I have received some interesting goodies!! 

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip in the shade Little Stitious
This month BB's main goal was to introduce for the first time to Colourpop cosmetics!!
Now in reality there will already be a lot of subscribers that already have tried this brand but as someone that has only just started getting curious about the brand I was excited to see these included this month. Now while lip products are usually my last thought of product I am really wanting to try this out. The Ultra Satin Lip is pigmented (based on swatch on the back of my hand) dries down nicely and is an in between of a matte and gloss. The colour I received is a nude dusty pink so I will see how it goes.

Glamourflage Rauchy Rosie Hand Cream 
You know winter is coming!! When the beauty boxes include a hand cream in there boxes. Now usually I would embrace this as I know my hands will start to need the TLC as it gets cold but as I have recently just culled my hand cream collection to get rid of old, rehome unopened ones I won't use. I didn't really need another hand cream in my life. Having said all that happy that it has a grapefruit scent as I had originally thought it would be rose scented given the Rauchy Rosie title!!

Zuii Organic Certified Organics Flora Eyeliner Pencil in the shade Brown
OK I know BB spent all the time and effort getting us excited for Colourpop but I have to admit I am more excited to try this eyeliner. I do prefer brown over black liner and I find pencils easier to work with. This liner says it will be creamy, have intense colour and great staying power. Cannot wait to try and its a bonus that this one is organic!!

KMS Addvolume Liquid Dust received a 3ml sample full size 50ml 
This liquid dust is designed to give your hair instant volume and texture without the powdery residue from other volumising powders. Not sure about this one as I don't use these products often but will give it a try and see what its like.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser received a 30ml deluxe sample full size is 1L.
This gentle cleanser is a great all rounder when it comes to skin care. Not only can it be used both on the face and body. It also can be used both with and without water. This product is free from all the usual nasties you find in skin care so great for sensitive skin.

So that ends BB for the month of April. A decent box overall very interested to try most of the products I have received. Will try every thing and failing any technical glitches will share my thoughts next month!!! Until then happy reading and happy shopping.
